Philip Treuil is a dedicated and experienced veterinarian. He has performed many different procedures on a variety of animals. Most animals are nervous and get scared during simple medical procedures and checkups. Here are some tips for keeping your pet calm at your next veterinary appointment.
Bring Something From Home
Your pet knows when it is in a new place and this could make it nervous or upset. Bring a toy or blanket from home to help calm your pet. You may even want to wrap it in a shirt or blanket with your scent on it.
Distract
If your pet is easily distracted, you may be able to get its attention and distract it from the procedure. You may be able to use a treat or a favorite toy or just talking to your pet and comforting it may be all the distraction it needs.
Practice At Home
If you know what your vet will be doing with or to your pet, you can practice a similar exam or procedure at home to get your pet used to the movements. Hold your pet the way the veterinarian will need to hold it and pretend you are doing an exam or procedure. This may make it easier for the veterinarian to work with your pet.

Make sure you know how to keep you pet calm at the vet.
